Privacy
This is a plain-language starting point, not legal advice. Review it (ideally with a professional) before launch and replace the bracketed parts.
What we store
- Your name, email, username and a securely hashed password (we never store or see your actual password).
- The states, national parks, trips, places, notes and photos you add.
- Basic sign-in records (time and IP address of attempts) to protect accounts from password guessing. These are deleted after 2 days.
Who can see it
Everything is private to you unless you turn on Public map in your account. Then anyone with your link can see the parts you choose to share. You can turn it off at any time.
Shared places
When you log a place, you can link it to a real place found with our place search. If you turn on Share this visit, your note, rating and photo for that visit appear on the place's public page with your first name and last initial (and a link to your map if your map is public). Sharing is off unless you turn it on, it's set separately for each visit, and you can turn it off at any time. Street addresses — like a home or a rental — can't be shared.
Anyone signed in can report a shared post. We review reports and may hide posts that are spam, offensive, misleading or that reveal someone's private information. Hidden posts stay in your own journal.
Only share photos you took or have the right to share. By sharing, you let GeoStatement show that content on the place page until you stop sharing or delete it.
Place search
Place search uses Geoapify, which is built on OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors). What you type in the search box is sent to Geoapify to find matching places; it isn't linked to your account there.
